The most family-friendly Christmas on Costa Dorada

Every year, Christmas arrives to transform the Costa Dorada into a setting filled with light, music, excitement and tradition. But above all, it manages to surprise the youngest members of the family, who experience this time of year as a fairy tale come true.  

From Christmas parks to ice rinks, markets, workshops, giant nativity scenes, concerts and magical parades, towns such as Tarragona, Reus, Salou, Cambrils, Vila-seca and La Pineda are transformed into authentic children's universes where every day is an adventure.

Christmas in Tarragona  

In Tarragona, children can enjoy Christmas activities, such as the popular Christmas Park, one of the largest in Catalonia, which is held at the Palau de Congressos from 27 December to 4 January. This enormous space functions as an interactive world: educational workshops, sports activities, play circuits, shows, themed areas and cultural activities for all ages. It is ideal for spending hours letting the little ones experiment, create and have fun.  

One of the most eagerly awaited activities for families is the Tarraco Gel ice rink, a facility that attracts hundreds of children and young people every year. This year it is open from 28 November to 7 January. Located in the Les Gavarres shopping centre, it allows you to enjoy ice skating in a Christmas atmosphere. Children who have not yet mastered the technique can use support sledges, making the experience perfect for the whole family.  

Added to this are the traditional Christmas markets, located on Rambla Nova. Children can stroll among decorated stalls, Christmas decorations and ideal handmade gifts.   

A children's universe in Reus  

Reus is one of the most dynamic and participatory cities at Christmas. Its streets are filled with music and colours, and there are activities for children almost every day.  

The heart of Christmas for children in Reus has its own name: Christmas Park, an unmissable event that brings thousands of families together every year at FiraReus (TecnoParc). During the school holidays, from 27 December to 4 January, this park offers a full programme designed especially for children: creativity workshops, educational activities, inflatable sports games, experimentation areas, family shows and cultural activities for all ages. The spaces are adapted so that children can move around freely, try new activities and experience Christmas at their own pace.  

In addition, Reus has two Christmas classics that are part of its identity: the Christmas Fair and the Mercat de Nadal.  

The Christmas Fair in Plaça del Mercadal, from 27 November to 6 January, brings together artisans, local products, Christmas decorations and themed stalls. In the same square, you will find the majestic Christmas tree, one of the most photographed elements of the festive season.  

Meanwhile, the Mercat d'Artesania de Nadal, held in Plaça d'Evarist Fàbregas from 27 November to 5 January, offers numerous gift options, from jewellery and handmade products to Christmas decorations.  

La Pineda surprises us  

La Pineda (Vila-seca) offers one of the most original and magical attractions on the entire Costa Dorada: the Pessebre de Sorra (Sand Nativity Scene), now in its 26th year, from 6 December to 6 January, a spectacular exhibition of giant sculptures made exclusively from sand. It is a perfect activity to visit with the family, take unforgettable photos and discover this very special artistic tradition by the sea.  

The town also offers the NOMAD Christmas Festival in La Pineda, a festival featuring a Christmas market, concerts, children's workshops, musical bingo and many other activities. Located in the Pinar del Perruquet Park, from 6th to 14th December. 

Christmas awaits you in Salou  

Every year, Salou focuses on a family-centred Christmas. Its star attraction is El Jardín de Navidad (The Christmas Garden), from 22 to 25 December, at the entrance to Carrer Ciutat de Reus and Carrer Mossèn Josep Llauradó i Piñol, a children's area where little ones can take part in a wide variety of workshops, attractions, games, shows and other activities for the whole family. And from 27 December to 5 January, at the Salou Centre Pavilion, you can experience Christmas in a different way with the Christmas Park, a perfect place to let children create, paint, experiment and experience Christmas from the inside.  

Music is also part of the essence of Salou. On 4 January, the Salou Auditorium Theatre will host a concert by the National Youth Orchestra of Catalonia. The grand finale comes on 5 January with the Three Kings Parade, one of the most eagerly awaited moments for families. Illuminated floats, fantastic characters, coloured lights, festive music and sweets turn the night into a real spectacle full of excitement and surprise.  

Cambrils is not far behind  

Cambrils is the perfect place to enjoy Christmas with children thanks to its peaceful, safe and family-friendly atmosphere. Every year, it organises a special programme for children, including Christmas workshops in civic centres, children's shows in squares and theatres, street entertainment, sports activities and storytelling. From 17 December to 5 January, Cambrils organises the ‘Christmas Garden’ in Samà Park, an open-air event with a unique Christmas atmosphere created through sound and lighting.  

Families can also enjoy the harbour decorated with lights, weekend fairs, markets such as the Christmas Market from 5 to 10 December in the Plaza de la Vila, Carrer Gimbernat and Carrer Immolats del Setge, and visits from Santa Claus or the Three Wise Men. Cambrils usually organises dynamic and participatory activities that allow children to move around, play and discover the magic of Christmas without crowds.
