Procession of the Virgin Santa Maria del Mar

This Thursday, 15th of August, the church of Santa Maria del Mar in Salou opens its doors to celebrate the Virgin Santa Maria del Mar’s festivity, a seafaring tradition that is celebrated every year with great enthusiasm. This Virgin is known to be the patron saint of sailors due to the belief in her protection against possible unforeseen events at sea.

The traditional festivity begins at 8 p.m. with a mass in honour of the town's patron saint, which will be accompanied by a choir made up of members from Salou’s three choir groups. Once the Eucharist is over, the procession will start at 9 p.m. from inside the church. Santa Maria del Mar will be carried on the shoulders of members of the Salou Fishermen's Guild, leading the way with the accompaniment of approximately 40 musicians. Following them, around a hundred people will illuminate the procession with their torches.

The route will reach Espigó del Moll, where the maritime procession by boat will begin. This sea route will conclude at the Jaume I’s monument at 11 p.m., where the Great Fireworks Display will be lit, followed by a performance by the orchestra La Privada in the Plaça de les Comunitats Autònomes.

Sant Roc town festival, in L'Hospitalet de l'Infant

The Sant Roc town festival honours the saint who, according to legend, could heal the sick from the plague. This festival is one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year, known for its cultural, sporting and leisure activities, making it ideal for all audiences. From the 14th to the 18th of August, L'Hospitalet de l'Infant will combine traditions with new proposals in a programme with up to 60 events. Some of the best-known and beloved events are the Trobada Gegantera, the Nit de Foc, the walk up to the chapel of Sant Roc, the Dansa Vora la Mar Blava, the “fideuà” and the “habaneras” with a tasting of burnt rum.

Sant Magí, in Tarragona

The Sant Magí festival returns stronger than ever from the 9th to the 19th of August to fill the streets of Tarragona with festivities, culture and music. As every year, this festival is filled with memorable activities, such as the Giants' Ball, where you can see the Gegantons Negritos, Gegants Moros, Gegants Vells and Cós del Bou, all of which will be accompanied by music and bastón dances. The event will take place on the 18th of August at 8:30 p.m. in the Plaça de la Font. On the same day, the popular verbena will take place as well, which lights up the Plaça del Rei, in which the Carro, the Síndria, the Càntir and the Petxina will be in charge of bringing colour to the festival. Essentially, an ideal party to dance to the rhythm of the music in a great festive atmosphere

On the Monday of Sant Magí, the 19th of August, the mass in honour of the patron saint will be celebrated in the church of Portal de Carro, in the morning, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. From 12 p.m. onwards, you’ll be able to enjoy the famous Castells, with the participation of the Xiquets de Tarragona, the Jove Xiquets de Tarragona, the Xiquets del Serrallo and the Castellers de Sant Pere i Sant Pau. In the evening of the same day, the procession of Sant Magí will take place, at 7.30 p.m., from the Portal del Carro.

Craft fair in La Pineda

La Pineda offers the opportunity to discover handmade confections at its Artisans' Market. Until the 31st of August, you’ll be able to see traditional and contemporary products in the Pinar de Perruquet Park. You will find a set of wooden huts with different exhibitions of handmade pieces, a market that, apart from showing you pieces made with traditional techniques, allows you to get closer to the local culture, art and craftsmanship. The stalls stand out for offering unique and high quality pieces, a perfect place to find a gift for someone special, or to take an exclusive souvenir home.
