BusPlana introduces 6 new buses to reinforce Costa Dorada-Tarragona-Barcelona route
  • 3 double-decker buses with a capacity of 99 passengers and 3 conventional buses with 61 seats.
  • All vehicles are adapted for people with reduced mobility and equipped with the latest technology in safety, sustainability, and energy efficiency.
  • The new buses will serve the Cambrils-Salou-La Pineda-Tarragona-Barcelona airport-Barcelona city route, adding to an existing fleet of 40 vehicles on this line.
  • The route transports over 550,000 passengers annually.
  • The presentation event in Cambrils was attended by the mayor, the Generalitat’s Director-General of Transport, and the president and director of Grupo Plana.

BusPlana presented today in Cambrils 6 new buses that will be incorporated into the line connecting Cambrils, Salou, La Pineda, Tarragona, Barcelona city, and the airport.

Three of these buses are double-deckers with a capacity of 99 passengers, while three others have 61 seats. All are adapted for people with reduced mobility and equipped with the latest technologies in safety, sustainability, and energy efficiency. Features include emergency braking assistance, cruise control, alcohol detection systems, blind spot detection, pedestrian detection in vulnerable areas, and even cybersecurity systems.

The buses meet the high Euro 6e environmental certification and are equipped with high-performance engines that operate at low revolutions to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

At the presentation, Mayor Oliver Klein expressed gratitude for the addition of new vehicles to this line and highlighted BusPlana’s connection to Cambrils’ tourism history: "Not only today but for decades, always with dedication, a spirit of constant improvement, and the will to ensure the operation of intercity transport in the Tarragona area."

BusPlana has been providing services in Cambrils since 1967.

The Generalitat’s General Director of Transport and Mobility, Susi López, emphasized the impact of the company’s activities: "13% of intercity bus trips in Catalonia are carried out by BusPlana, a company that is also growing."

For his part, the president of Grupo Plana, Josep Albert Vallcorba, noted that the buses, which can hold up to 100 passengers in the case of double-deckers, "incorporate the latest safety measures, are highly sustainable, and provide great comfort for users." He also highlighted that the double-decker units were manufactured in Catalonia.

A line in constant growth

The fleet of the Cambrils-Salou-La Pineda-Tarragona-Barcelona airport-Barcelona city line adjusts to the season. During these months, it will consist on about 40 buses.

In just three years, the line has increased from transporting 441,605 passengers annually in 2022 to 550,691 in 2024, a 25% growth. This positive trend continues, with the first quarter of 2025 recording a 10% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth is due to improved frequency, reliability, and safety of the service, as well as fleet renewal, fostering greater trust in public bus transport—a more sustainable, reliable, safe, efficient, and comfortable mode of transportation.

With these 6 new vehicles, BusPlana continues its fleet renewal plan. In addition to these 6 presented buses, a new vehicle was recently introduced on the Cunit line, also operated by BusPlana. Furthermore, 9 more buses are planned to launch this summer.

In the past two years, the group has renewed 170 out of the 600 buses in its fleet, solidifying its position as a leading operator in Catalonia.
