BusPlana and Vila-seca’s Town Council Expand and Upgrade the Vila-seca Urban Transportation Service

• The number of buses has increased from 1 to 2, the number of routes from 4 to 7, and the number of bus stops and service frequency has been increased to provide better coverage across the municipality.
• BusPlana has been operating the service since 2020, with the number of passengers steadily rising.

On Monday 1 September, BusPlana and Vila-seca Town Council introduced a new vehicle as part of the expansion of Vila-seca’s urban bus service, known as Bus Blau, which BusPlana has been operating since July 2020.

As part of this expansion, the number of lines has increased from 4 to 7, with revised routes and additional bus stops to provide better coverage to all neighbourhoods in the municipality and key locations such as the health centre, the train station, the L'Alba Industrial Estate, the municipal music conservatory, secondary schools and the local shopping centre.

For the first time, the service will operate with two buses:

• A compressed natural gas (CNG) bus, which will operate throughout the city, reaching the La Plana neighbourhood. (Lines L2, L22, L3, L33 and L4.)

• A larger articulated bus that will connect Vila-seca with La Pineda, expected to be 100% electric next year. (Lines L1 and L11)

Service frequency will also increase, running approximately every 30 minutes in summer and every 45 minutes in winter, to ensure faster and more efficient travel within the municipality.

The expansion comes in response to the sustained rise in passenger numbers over the last five years (from 43,000 in 2021 to more than 200,000 annually in the present). It also aims to continue offering a modern, efficient, and sustainable public transport network for residents of Vila-seca.

Travelling will continue to be free for holders of the VilaCard.
