Things you probably didn't know about the animals you'll see at Barcelona’s Zoo

Barcelona Zoo has around 2,000 animals and over 300 different species, so the variety of animals you'll see will never be a problem. If you want to make the most of a day out with the family, you can't miss this unforgettable tour with BusPlana. What's more, in this article you'll find some interesting facts about the animals you'll meet:

Did you know that the flamingos’ legs bend at the end? They can cause a strange perception to us, as we don't have the ability to do the same as they do with their legs. It is very common to believe that it is the knees that bend backwards, but the truth is that what we can see in the middle of their legs, are the ankles, the knees being further up and behaving like ours.

On the other hand, the most characteristic movement of the gorillas is the fact that they beat their chests, but have you ever wondered why they do it? Studies indicate that the reason is to demonstrate their power to their friends and enemies, the bigger the gorilla, the stronger and more intimidating the blows will be. Females take advantage of this gesture to evaluate the males and find out who is more powerful.

It has always been recommended to sleep 7-8 hours a day, and even if you sleep these hours, it is possible that you may find it hard to get up in the morning. Did you know that giraffes are able to stay awake the whole day without concerns, by sleeping only between 1 and 2 hours?

Let's move on to elephants, because this species is one of the few groups of animals that can recognise themselves in their mirror reflexes. Among these select species, there are also primates and cetaceans, among others.

Finally, anteaters do not have teeth, but instead have a sticky tongue that can measure up to 60 centimetres and is covered with spines so that they can reach all kinds of places. They are animals that can eat up to 30,000 ants a day, but always with care and respecting the concretes, because if they were to destroy them they would not be sure of being able to eat again the next day.

Of course, we could explain many more curiosities about the animals at the Zoo, but how about going and seeing them in person? The tour to Barcelona’s Zoo is just a couple of clicks away with BusPlana, don't miss this experience and make your reservation!
